The Belgian Film Producers Association (BeFPA) is created
The Belgian producers Be Films, Nexus Factory, nWave Pictures, Saga and uMedia have united to form a new national association of producers. The purpose of this not-for-profit organisation is to promote and represent Belgian producers who create audiovisual works with a commercial potential and who generate positive economic spin-off for our country.
Having the ability to develop and attract significant film-making projects to Belgium is essential for the health of the Belgian film-making industry. It is on the basis of this observation that the producers Be Films, Nexus Factory, nWave Pictures, Saga and uMedia have united to form the Belgian Film Producers Association (BeFPA). The Association aspires to be nationwide and welcomes producers from all of the country’s Regions.
“The BeFPA is all about representing Belgian producers seeking to develop significant projects in our country, whether in the form of film, TV fiction or animation,” said Jean-Jacques Neira, the newly-elected chairman of the BeFPA. “The BeFPA also wishes to energise our industry while at the same time promoting the quality of the services offered by our film industry companies, technicians and talents to clients abroad.”
Currently consisting of 5 founder-members, the BeFPA already represents over 30 per cent of the industry since in 2012 its combined members produced over 50 films and telefilms for a total production budget representing in excess of € 280 million. Of these works, six films (Dead Man Talking, When Pigs Have Wings, Cloclo, Les Tribulations d’une Caissière, Torpedo and Little Glory) obtained 14 nominations for Magritte awards for the cinema 2013.
In addition to its representation duties in Belgium and abroad, the BeFPA intends to take an active role in the issues of importance to Belgian producers, such as funding resources in the Regions, distributors and television broadcasters, or the Tax Shelter system.
The BeFPA, which is based in Brussels, is enthusiastic about the idea of welcoming new members to its number and encourages Belgian producers to apply for membership.
